The Monday Effect
Monday is everyone's favourite day to 'begin again' with a clean slate. This is called the The Monday Effect. Monday is a great day for a mental reset after a weekend of potentially less healthy choices. Starting on Monday can create a sense of motivation and commitment to a healthier lifestyle.
And Monday usually goes really well. A good brekkie, more water, 'clean eating' , savage gym session, early night.
Tuesday, feeling great after a solid Monday, momentum will continue.
Wednesday, hump day... few things might start to slip, glass of wine in the evening, bag of crisps (or two) late to bed after a few extra episodes on Netflix (Yellowstone is killing me at the moment 😂)
Thursday, late up and the spiral just goes down over the next few days, putting you in an almost worse position than you were in last Monday.
Why does this happen? Several reasons
Stress and fatigue: Kids, work, parents, study... all of life's obstacles can make it more challenging to prioritise healthy habits and maintain motivation.
Decision Fatigue: Throughout the week, individuals may face numerous decisions, both related to their health and other aspects of life. This can lead to decision fatigue, where willpower and self-control become depleted, making it harder to make healthy choices consistently.
Lack of Planning and Preparation: Over the course of the week, people may become less diligent due to lack of planning and foresight.
Weekend Mindset: We see weekends as a time for relaxation and indulgence. This mindset can lead to a more relaxed approach to healthy habits, making it easier to stray from a healthy lifestyle.
